Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about how we find out what your stuff is worth.
General
Is HowMuchIsItWorth.co really free?
Yes, you get free valuations every day, no account and no credit card required. We plan to keep a generous free tier forever.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Just take a photo and go.
What can I get valued?
Nearly anything with a resale market: coins, trading cards, watches, jewelry, antiques, electronics, sneakers, handbags, records, comics, toys, art, tools, instruments, cameras, and more. If people buy and sell it secondhand, we can usually value it.
Does it work on mobile?
It's built for mobile first, the camera opens straight from the upload button. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon.
Accuracy & methodology
How accurate are the valuations?
Values are anchored to actual recent sold prices, not AI guesses. Accuracy is highest for items with active markets (cards, sneakers, popular watches, coins) and widest for one-of-a-kind pieces. Every result shows a confidence rating and the comparable sales behind it.
Where does the pricing data come from?
Our engine researches the live market at the moment you ask: recent eBay sold listings, auction results, and category-specialist marketplaces. Sources are shown with each result.
Why do I get a range instead of one number?
Because that's how real markets work. The low end is a quick-sale price, the middle is the typical sold price, and the high end is what the right buyer might pay. Anyone who gives you a single exact number is guessing.
What if the tool can't identify my item?
It will say so honestly and tell you what would help, usually a clearer photo, a shot of markings or labels, or a brand name in the notes.
Can it detect AI-generated images?
Yes. Clear AI-generation evidence gets flagged, and we still report what a real version of the item would be worth. We're deliberately conservative, genuine photos are never falsely flagged.
Privacy & trust
What happens to my photos?
They are analyzed in memory and immediately discarded. We never store, share, sell, or train on your photos.
What data do you keep?
Only the valuation result (item name and value range, anonymized) and standard analytics. No photos, no personal information.
Is this a formal appraisal?
No. It's a market estimate for your own decisions. For insurance, estates, or disputes you'll need a certified appraiser, and we'll tell you when an item looks valuable enough to justify that cost.
Selling
Where should I sell my item?
It depends on the item, every valuation includes selling tips for your specific category: eBay for reach, StockX/GOAT for sneakers, Chrono24 for watches, Discogs for records, local for furniture, auction houses for high-value rarities.
Should I sell at the low, mid, or high price?
List near the high end with room to negotiate if you have time; price at the mid for a normal sale; use the low end when you need cash fast or are selling to a dealer (who needs margin).
Do you buy items or take a commission?
No. We don't buy, broker, or take commissions, which is exactly why our estimates have no reason to flatter you.
